Overview
The TCF IRN is composed of 4 mandatory parts, lasts for a total of 1 hour 15 minutes and assesses candidates’ general French language skills :
• | Listening comprehension : 15 minutes. Group test : 20 multiple-choice questions (4 choices,only one correct answer). |
• | Reading comprehension : 20 minutes. Group test : 20 multiple-choice questions (4 choices,only one correct answer). |
• | Writing : 30 minutes. Group test : 3 exercises. |
• | Speaking : 10 minutes. One-to-one test with an examinator : 3 exercises. |
The TCF IRN only assesses language skills and not knowledge of French history, culture, or society.

Candidates with specific needs :
Should you require any special arrangements to take the exam, please send us a medical certificate clearly indicating your disability and what equipment or assistance you will needwhen you register. To benefit from these arrangements, candidates must make the request before the registration deadline.
Results
All candidates will receive a certificate stating their results. This certificate will be valid for a limited period of two years.
Overview
The TCF TP (Tout Public, TCF for the General Public) is a language test offered by the French Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. It assesses the general language skills of non-native speakers of French.
The TCF TP is composed of 3 mandatory parts, presented in the form of multiple-choice questions and 2 complementary and optional parts, presented in the form of exercises, which candidates can choose to take or not, depending on their needs :
• | Listening comprehension : 25 minutes. Group test : 29 multiple-choice questions (4 choices, only one correct answer). |
• | Knowledge of language structure : 15 minutes. Group test : 18 multiple-choice questions (4 choices, only one correct answer). |
• | Reading comprehension : 45 minutes. Group test : 29 multiple-choice questions (4 choices, only one correct answer). |
• | Writing : 60 minutes. Group test : 3 exercises. |
• | Speaking : 12 minutes, including 2 minutes of preparation time. One-to-one test with an examinator : 3 exercises. |
The TCF TP exam lasts between 1 hour 25 minutes and 2 hours 37 minutes.
Candidates concerned by the DAP (Demande d’Admission Préalable) application :
Please note that if you are taking the TCF as part of your application to enroll in higher education in France (DAP), the writing test is mandatory.

Results :
All candidates will receive a certificate which will place them on one of the six levels (from A1 to C2) of the skills scale defined by the Council of Europe (Common European Framework of Reference). You cannot fail the TCF.
