FRENCH ⊕ SCIENCES is a linguistic, scientific and cultural immersion course, offering French language learning and exposure, in English, to France’s scientific environment in the fields of microtechnology and biomedical engineering.

BSc graduate students
Language requirements:
• In French: from ‘complete beginner’ level
• in English: a B2 level in English is required

Objectives and content

This course will enable students to

• Learn or develop communication skills in French
• Discover how faculties and training and research units work in France, especially at the University of Franche-Comté
• Discover French scientific culture and entrepreneurial dynamism in the fields of microtechnology and biomedical engineering
• Explore the cultural assets of a French ‘region’ (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) and its surrounding areas

1. French as a foreign language module – 15 hours a week
• Reading and writing skills
• Intercultural knowledge and competences

2. Scientific activities module – 15 hours a week
• Students will discover the Microtechnology and Biomedical Engineering Faculties at the Université de Franche-Comté
• They can participate in conferences and scientific debates
• They will visit state-of-the-art companies combining microtechnology and biomedical applications (from fundamental research to industrial partnerships)
• Go on tours of local heritage sites

Working language: English

Organization of the course:

Every week, from Monday to Friday:
• 3 hours of French every morning
• 3 hours of scientific and technical activities every afternoon

The activities related to the scientific part of the training course will be done in partnership with the ISIFC institute (a graduate School of biomedical engineering), the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences, the Faculty of Sports, Research, Promotion and Techniques U-SPORTS, and the Microtechniques Center.
